Default 1949 WL Questions

As I have just bought my first WL 45 I was wondering if you guys had some good parts sources that you would recommend?
Apparently this was put up about 20 years ago, installed a new battery, and float in carb.Changed the oil,and cleaned a few things up. She started on the 2nd kick.Unfortunately the dipstick for the Tranny broke and I have worked on it about 4 hours with not much luck, stuck like a bitch. But I will get it out,one thing these old bikes have taught me is patience. So as of now I am looking for a dipstick for the tranny, and a Black battery box cover...

Are you sure you had a dipstick. As far as I can remember it just had a transmission fill plug, a long threaded tube with a hex at the end. Old Part number 2326-41 new part number 703. NOSparts.com has them for between 10 and 15 dollars.

J&P Cycles also has a vintage bikes catalog (though they're a little pricey). I PMed you about the box cover. I have one if you want it.

Capt I ordered the book on mine through my DH dealer, was a lot of help. For the love of god take your time. This is a link to a video clip of me getting mine started. By the way when I got her together she started right up to. Man I love this bike.

Default J and P junk

JP sell factory error rates, but then again we probably buy 30,000 worth of parts a year and all the parts seem to be lacking quality control..but J&P are the worst..plus they won't take their **** back..or something like that..ruben

hey Capt.! there are several good sources for nos and re-pop parts, I am sitting here responding 2 you cause i forgot 2 retard the timing when i kicked my 55-g thurs. nite. it KICKED BACK!!!!!! nOW I'M on crutches. The good thing is i kicked a few more times, & she is running for the first time since 1971!!!!!!!!!!
Any way I have made several purchases from," 45restoration.com, throttlemasters, (of Chicago) and for newer, I have a 75 FL & 04 ultra I use,'Jirehcycle.com.
I am very pleased with 45 rest. they have new/repop, and used oem "CLEAN" parts. The people i talk to on the phone,( i dont give CC on computer) i want to know who im doin business with , are very knowledgable. Be spacific if you want originalparts!!!! All have treated me excellent!!!
45 Restoration - 1(800)445-1945 great people to deal with!!!!!
Throttle Masters (mostly re-poped parts) (773)247-6114
Jireh cycles ( cheaper& better than J$P[japanees Parts]) (877)681-0448
Good luck & Keep the rubber side down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
