Anyhow, the Rushmore comes with new issues, a whole new bag system, new electronic system and abs. It shares more with the '17 than the pre '14. They're all touring bikes, but segregation of 13 down and 14 up just makes sense. And everyone is putting their 2 cents in on their experience with the '17, and it's flooding the general forum population from getting help.

As far as the rest, I disagree with how you classify bikes. To me it's about the motor - as stated. You may think your way makes sense, but to me it doesn't. Different perspectives I guess. No right or wrong here- just opinions.
Re: the 17 banter going on....it will fade. They were just released so everyone is excited to share their opinion. Me included. This is an enthusiasts forum. That's what we do.

Re: Beta testing - my 14 Rushmore was the 1st of the last evolution of Twinkies and the new stuff mentioned. I really wasn't concerned. Warranties and factory recalls will handle whatever comes up. It will for the M8 too. Fortunately for me, very few things came up. The bike has been great and stone cold reliable. But really, it's the last iteration of the twin cam, so in theory, all the bugs should be worked out on the important stuff.
My biggest concern would be buying a one year only bike like the 08.

I've got an 07 and I'd argue that it was a bigger change from the previous year than the m8s are from 2016. 07 had a new engine, new transmission and a new radio so it was a beta bike as well.
It is also pretty commonly referred to as a bastard year. Ive gotta say, I wonder if the 17s are destined to be a repeat bastard year what with the new frame susposedly coming in 2018...
Maybe the mods have a bigger plan? Or perhaps they believe the M8 will go away after this year? Who knows??
