How come there's no delete function?

I used to wonder that too...but then I stopped.
Now, when someone wants to delete a post, they usually erase it and post "deleted". And if someone asks to have a post/thread deleted, it's move to the "Twilight Zone".
I know that doesn't answer your question but it might help.
