Can't remove the starter on my 2009 Ultra Classic. Manual starts with,"Remove starter solenoid connector [128] at front of starter." I can't unplug that connector! I've have tried from the right side and the left side after removing the primary cases. It is frozen solid. I can see a white type lock tab on the back side of that connecter but pressing in on it does not release the plug.
Why do I need to remove the starter? I have been trying to figure out where oil, probably from the primary, is leaking out of the bike and onto my garage floor. I discovered a pool of oil and sludge under the starter and top of the transmission. I have seen discussions on how primary oil can get into the starter and drain out through a vent hole on the bottom of the starter due to gaskets and O rings failing inside the starter.
I can't even begin to deal with the problem unless I can disconnect that connector which I think is something to do with the solenoid. Desperate for ideas, clues, on getting that connector to disconnect short of cutting it off with a Dremel tool. Thanks.
@HOGNOT You should start this thread in the Engine/Mechanical section of the forum; starter removal is not a "forum issue". The moderator, @Cornpipe of this section can move your OP to Engine/Mechanical; he will probably come along shortly. You cannot delete your post but you can delete all the text and replace the text with "Wrong Section" or "Moved to Engine/Mechanical" and "Save Changes". You can delete the OP text with the Copy/Cut feature and paste your OP into a new post in the Engine/Mechanical section. I would do that for you but I don't have any authority in the Forum Issues section.
WRT to the issue, when you do start another thread in the Engine/Mechanical section, post some pictures of the connector as well as the oil leak. I could be mistaken but I am betting that the starter removal is not necessary to find the source of the oil leak. I suspect that you will need to remove the outer and inner primary to find the source of the leak.
