FortyEight losing power while riding
So here's what happened:
- First time after a 100km +- less ride, we stopped on a red light and as soon as we stopped the bike started to lose power to zero, but he accelerated and she stood alive.
- Then this started happening at random periods everytime we were riding, but specially when slowing down for red lights.
- We got in contact with HD Service at town and they told us it could be the kickstand switcher sensor, so we disconnected it and issue did not happen during a week +- (only doing small rides to work)
- After 2 days stopped we went on a small ride (20min) and we stopped the bike to take coffee. When we turned it on again, 5min later she lost power on idle RPM again, battery went dead. We pushed the bike at a descent road, she turned on again but we had to keep her acceleration high, so we could get home (the speedo kept dying to zero while riding but since acceleration was kept high, the bike did not shut off).
- We checked all cables including ground wire on battery, everything seems ok
- We checked battery values to see if it was battery or regulator issues:
- 12.8V shut down;
- 12.3V with key on the ignition;
- 12.1V/12.2 V with kill switch on.
- Working goes up to 13.5V and while accelarating never goes over 14V.
- We measured battery charge it was full when turned off and when we turned the bike on it dropped to 1/3.
- We also checked for light dims and everything stayed stable, except for the rear break lights, which both stay off when we press the pedal.
- We also checked the key on the ignition to see if anything changes: nothing. Also we don't use keychain.
- There is no sputtering
- We noticed battery had a weird liquid underneath it when we took it off.
- We also noticed the ignition cable is a little damaged in the place where it meets the battery protection.
We are assuming by now it might be a stator issue, probably starting to die. Every cable and piece looks original on the bike. We're going to see HD Support within 15days, still we wanted to get ready for whats coming since we did everything we could with the little we know. We just want to keep the bike healthy and go ride!
Sorry for our english! Thank you for your time, hope someone can help us! :)
