My "edit options" doesn't have a Manage Editor Interface choice. It ends at Date and Time Options. Uploaded photos go into a Post Photos album but won't insert into a post.

The post you're referring to describes the situation in 2014.
Their have been some changes since than.
No need anymore to change the editor interface. We're using a standard one nowadays.
I have adjusted the info accordingly.

To add a picture I do the following:
edit
manage attachments
browse your device
photo library
camera roll
click picture
click done
when image finishes loading, I click upload, screen returns to edit and Im lost...
