I just replaced the rear tire on my 05 RK for the first time. I have 8000 miles on it and the wear bars are just starting to show.
I called around and the price differences were astounding for the same tire.
My local HD agency wanted $229 installed for a Dunlop D402 narrow white wall tire. Had it in stock but could not install it for a week.
A call to the indy netted a price of $179, in stock, but could not install til nex week. If I bring in the wheel, the price would be $139 , same install time of next week.
Called one of my riding buddies who works for a dealer of a Japanese manufacturer, they ordered the exact same tire I have on the bike now, even says HD on the side wall. It took a week for them to get the tire.
My new Dunwell jack came in and it worked flawlessly. I jacked up the bike, removed the bags, the SEII slip ons, removed the belt guard, the axle nut and axle. 20 minutes tops. I took the wheel to the dealer, came back in an hour and it was ready. Cost me $107.61 out the door, mounted, balanced and a new valve stem.
I got home too late Friday night to put it back together. I am on duty Saturday and Sunday, so Monday mornig it goes together and I am back in the wind for two days.
The install is a piece of cake, and look how much $3.00 gas I can buy with the money I saved!!!
i always do my own. you can get an MU85-16 H-D dunlop over the internet for about $105 delivered. ain't no big deal to change it yourself if you have a few tools and some common sense.
