Sorry for the apprentice-level question, but I have a significant squeal when I engage my rear brake. I ride a ‘17 RGU with less than 6,000 miles. I have practiced some slow speed maneuvering but certainly nothing to the extent that I should be down to metal. What steps should I take to see why I have this noise? Thank you for your help.
My '17 RGS does it too, starting at around 500 miles. It's intermittent and related to temperature and humidity. They are **** pads, IMHO. I'll upgrade when it's time to replace them. I wouldn't worry about it.
I have a 2016 Road King and the back brake would squeal something awful.
I removed the pads and filed a 45 degree bevel on the lead and trail edges of the pads and that stopped the noise.
Later, the fronts started to squeal as well. I removed all the pads, front and back and coated the backing plates with CRC Disc Brake Quiet.
It's only been a few days and a few rides but, the brakes are now dead quiet, not a peep from anything.
I'm hoping that it lasts long term, it's such a relief not to be riding a bike that sound like a freight train coming to a stop!!
