Default 150 k on the suspension

Hello everyone,

I'm rebuilding my first bike, an 00 fxdwg. How long are these suspensions good for? I have progressive shocks on the rear, factory springs in the forks? The bike and suspension has 150,000 miles on them.

And can anyone elaborate on what one is getting when they pay more for shocks? I noticed progressives like mine are 300 bucks, other brands are 900! I like to ride and I like to ride far, but I'm not a hot riding type. So, any advice on what shocks are right for me?

Thanks!

Bitubo, good shock for the money, won't break the bank account. Do a google search.

Shocks don't have much of a service life and certainly not 150k miles worth!

As for cost, we get what we pay for. There is a good reason why the better ones cost more, which is they have far superior damping than cheap ones. Will you tell the difference between cheap and expensive ones? Most certainly yes IMHO - however be sure to buy from a dealer who will ensure you get the correct springs etc. Don't just buy shocks in a box off the shelf.

Those front forks work real well with Racetech Emulators and springs. I used Works on the rear but they went out of business. Don't forget to replace the steering bearings and rebuild the swing arm (bearings).
