Question rear air shock fixes

I have had my bike about a year and when checking the air pressure in the rear shocks a bunch of oil spit out. I am guessing they are air over oil and that the air side shouldn't have oil in it. I have been investigating replacements but they all say that they lower the bike. I am not ready to lower the bike at this point due to the fact you are supposed to lower the front also. I need a repair at this point. Are they re-buildable? If not any clues as to where to pick up o.e. shocks? Any help would be appreciated.

the air and oil share a common chamber. per the owners manual, always give a shot of air into the shock valve before attempting to bleed air out or checking it. this will clear the line of any oil that has splashed up in there. my guess is there is nothing wrong with your shocks.

Guess I need a owner's manual. Bought it used and don't have one. I originally was trying to check pressure and it sprayed everywhere gettin s*&t everywhere(nice cleanup needed). The port is so short it sprays before I even get it on all the way. I have another compressor I will try with a bail clip. I have heard 15 psi max, is that right? Thanks for the info and happy riding

Thanks for the info. Didn't have my computer over the weekend so I called my local dealer and as usual got a wrong answer from them. They said 20 max. Glad to know I get better info at the forum. Happy riding

I bought a set of Street Glide take offs that were replaced before a new bike left the dealer. The dealer put them in a box and didn't plug them (gee, I wonder why they did that). When I got them, there was oil all over the box and it was clear that a significant amount of oil had leaked out the fittings. I did some research here and learned that they could be refilled. I talked to 2 dealers and a couple of indys and all of them said it couldn't be done. Well, it can with a little work. The question is how much oil they hold and there are several opinions on that. It seems that they hold somewhere between 330 and 350 cc's.
