Has anyone had to change the fork selas on a Heritage or Fatboy. I popped a seal the other day, so am tearing down to put new seals in. Came to the triple tree clamps , and am have a bitch of a time getting the tubes out. I pulled the clamp bolts out, have the top cap out, and the two bolts that hold the top chrome tube. Using a chisle form my air chisle in the space to spread the clamp, i am trying to spread this bast*** and i can only get the tube to slowly come down as i hit the chisle each time. Shouldn't the chisle spread the clamp enough for the tube to slide out without much resistant. I got the tubes out, but it is going to be a bitch to get them back in. What do you guys use to spread the triple tree? I watched some you-tube videos and they don't show you that part or it is a FX front end. Any help would be graetly appreciated. Bully
Patience! Lubrication, imagination. Don't hit anything, beat it with stealth!
Joking aside, there is no magic pill that I have found. I never tackle those sorts of job without plenty of time in hand. It will come and you will wonder what the fuss was about. Best of luck - I am about to tackle my own forks!
When you go to put it back it use a rubber hammer or a 2/4 so it wont dent or chip it!!I have found one drops out and the other wont, its just the way it is sometimes.
