Default Alignment

The front forks on my '07 Deluxe do not appear to be "square" with the bike. The bars align with the front forks correctly. As you ride straight down the road, the forks are slightly turned to the right, which make the bars go off to the right as well. If you try to turn the bars to make the forks look straight, you'll do a hard lane change to the left. The tire seems to be wearing evenly. I was told that older bikes like mine can be aligned, and thus can get out of alignment. Is this likely just an optical illusion or is this possible and the fix is as stated? In other words, does all this sound right, or am I just?

What you have been told is quite right and your problem may well be that your bike needs to be re-aligned. The engine/trans/swingarm assembly is mounted in the frame at three points. This assembly has to be correctly aligned within the frame, then the rear wheel correctly aligned relative to the front wheel. With a little patience it can be done at home, using the procedure that is described in full in your factory service manual. If you don't have one......

Cool! While I may yet be, at least this doesn't prove it! I'm a new rider, and only have about 1k road miles under my belt. I've only been up to highway speeds (75 mph) one time, and didn't like it as the bike just felt loose and wobbly to me. I'm guessing that a poorly aligned bike would feel that way and that might explain what I was feeling.

If you're new to bikes it may be wise to find a local Harley independent (a dealer is likely to be more expensive!) to check your bike for you. If you're handy with working on vehicles, or plan on doing your own maintenance, it is worth buying the factory service manual (not any of the cheap alternatives). They ain't cheap to buy, but after your first hour's use of it you are in pocket!
