I'm stumped with an electrical problem on my FXR. The bike has been rewired by a previous owner, whilst it works, it's a pretty shitty job. He added the newer Dyna hand controls with the left and right indicator switches, alongside the axeljoost relay to control the indicators / auto cancel etc.
So all the indicators work with the key in the first click, ACC on position. However when the bikes key is turned all the way to ign on, the front right indicator doesn't work, although the blinker light in the guage bracket does.
I've tried tracing cables and short of stripping back the loom.i can't find the issue.
Really struggling to see how that issue could arise, like something is cutting the line to the right indicator in ignition on only?
As asked, what year bike? Older bikes had a two position switch, my 1991 has one. First position is not Accessories, it is IGNITION. Everything should work, but no head light or taillight. Second position is LIGHTS, they should turn on. At some point in the late 80's the Feds made a headlight being "on" mandatory and both positions do the same thing. Good luck.
in the long run, the easiest way to fix it is to rewire the bike. you may fix one issue only to run into another later. I would use this as an opportunity to install an m-unit and never worry about the last guy's wiring again.

Sounds typical FXR and is a problem I have seen a fair bit and usually caused by a shitty ground or a duff ign switch. Here in NZ most FXR's were MC bikes at some point and without exception they had a way of switching the lights off while being pursued by the Po-Po. Taking this out and its associated crappy wiring connections often fixed the issue.
I would start by taking the Axeljoost box out and proving all the connections without it and then reintroduce it and see what happens....a bit long-winded but it can be an effective diagnostic strategy.
