Default Tailgating Goofball

I had a "if I had a gun..." episode today.

When I left work...it's on a 65mph highway...I saw a car coming but it was a good distance away. As I'm going 65, he's getting closer to me. There's two lanes, so I figure he'll get in the other lane if he needs to pass me but he just keeps getting closer.

Finally, all I can see in my mirror is his front end. It's filling my mirror, he's that close. So I hit the brakes, I KNOW, not the smartest move. Usually I just left off the gas but I was pissed.

Anyway, he hits his brakes, honks snd shoots me the finger. Yeah, I was in the one in the wrong. When he turns off to get on the interstate, I turn to look at him and he never looks my way. Odd. I would have thought he'd give me his meanest look and finger again.

A-holes are everywhere...don't let them get under your skin. All it takes is one moment to let your guard down and...things go South. Ride-on!

I know how you feel.

I have to make a left turn onto the street I live on, after coming around a bend and going slightly down hill.
I have been rear-ended twice in my truck trying to make that turn.

I watch my mirrors very closely on the bike, and if there is anyone coming up behind me I just keep going. Not about to stop to make a left in that situation.
You can tell as they come up, they have no intention of slowing down as they "assume" you will have turned by the time they get to you.

I don't like tailgaters at all.

You didn't mention if you were in the left or right lane when he got to your rear fender.
If you were in the left and were only doing the speed limit & then brake checked the dude to top it off - heck I would have flipped you off too...

Yeah, I forgot that part. But I was in the right lane, where I ALWAYS ride/drive. I usually go the speed limit or a little over. So I leave the left lane for those who need to speed.

Sounds like you were doing no wrong.......BUT don't let them get under your skin! A good ole "brake job" can cost you your life on a bike!

Yeah, it was a "heat of the moment" decision and a bonehead move on my part. Like I said, I normally just let off the gas.

That's when I deploy the drag chute, unattached of course. Gets them every time.

Brake checking is an amateur move, especially on a bike.

Glad your okay, but please don't do that. If they were drunk or stoned their reaction time could have been seriously degraded. I understand the desire though, oh boy do I ever. I hate tailgaters with a passion.
