We have been plugging tires for over 50 yrs. and never once had any problems. I have seen tires worn to the canvas with plugs still in and holding air. Installed correctly they are a permanent fix.
My training has been in the repair and maintenance of HD Trucks, repairs to steering tires is not allowed. The way I see it Both my bikes tires are steering tires.
I once road on a tire that I had plugged 6 times. I ran it until it was low on tread. I will point out that after a while the plugs will dry out and start to leak very slightly. If you do plug it make checking your air pressure before every ride a high priority, carry an air gauge in your pocket. But like others have said the only way to not go thru any bs or insecurities is to just replace it.
I would never feel comfortable riding around on a plugged motorcycle tire. Riding is dangerous enough as it is, no need to push your luck any further. JMO
Me too. I carry a tire repair kit and would plug a tire to get home, but would put on a new tire ASAP.
And, as Frostbite said, "It's your money, do what you want...."
It also depends how and where you ride. It's not unusual for me to ride back roads out in the sticks, miles from any town, where there is no cell coverage. A plugged tire is one thing I don't want to worry about.
