Lost my first Evo engine because I didn't change the tappet rollers at 40,000 miles. At 48,000, one of them failed and shed pieces of the needles through the engine. The bike was never raced or abused, just ridden. IMO, tappet rollers are the weak point in the Evo (also post '92 inner cam bearings if you haven't upgraded).

FWIW, engine never "blew", it kept on running, just made a lot of $$$ sounding noise.

Well, that's my laugh for the day!

OP, read up on "piston speed." Harley's long stroke (as compared to a four cylinder UJB)
can easily destroy an engine if the engine is overrevved.

Not using Brand XXXXXX oil in all three holes.

Substitute XXXXXX with your preferred band.

I bought an M2 Cyclone when Buell first came out. Wow, an American sport bike! I was in love. I rode with all my Suzuki/Kawasaki/Honda/Yamaha friends for 2 glorious months. Every other week it was in the shop. And the Buell dealer never had any parts in stock, so it sat dormant more often then it was ridden. One night, the motor blew. I saw it coming. Under warranty, of course. But I said "keep it and give me that yellow Honda VTR1000 in the window". I never looked at another piece of crap Buell again. It had a Sportster motor. Now they're made with Canadian motors (Rotax), so they should run great now. It's sad, but Harley can NOT make a high performance motor. Take V-Rod as a perfect example. Harley wanted to put a high performance motor into one of their bikes, so they asked Porche to make one for them. Because they know if they tried, it would fall apart.
