You guys make working at the dealership sound horrible. How bad is the pay? And does the actual Harley Davidson Co. have different branches than just Milwaukee? I don't really want to live there but would love to work for them. Although I see some of you say not to mix business with pleasure, I still think it would be pleasure to work for my favorite company, and working for the actual company you make damn good money I hear.
Dealerships make their money by being open when normal people are off work. Meaning EVERY WEEKEND AND HOLIDAY nobody except management made over 14.00 an hr at the one I was at. Which is fine if you don't need more than that. HD corporate has positions in different areas but all return the mother ship.
So, in addition. If you want to work weekends and holidays, at least you get to be around cool motorcycles and listen to music all day.

Myrtle Beach Harley owners have three stores between here and Charleston. There is high turnover at all of them. Beach House Harley just 30 miles up the road in NC has zero turn over. (Many former employees of Myrtle Beach Harley in the boutique and service center who drive/ride 60+ miles RT everyday
Just two guys each handle the entire deal from sales to F&I. They have been there for years.........and MB DMV says they register 3-5 bikes from Beach House rather than the local dealership. Beach House's entire purpose is to take Myrtle Beach sales away and they do. With no pressure Low prices and a one stop buying experience.
The people that work at the local dealerships all pretty much have one thing in common. No time for themselves.
The gentlemen that sold me my bike only has one day off a week. I drive a truck and compared pay checks and I made double what he did in his best year.
I don't want to be in sales though, do you think the marketing directors at the dealerships get paid **** as well? Regardless, I will take the internship because it is with Harley and it is experience. But maybe I should look elsewhere for a job after that is over. I would enjoy having some time off to ride and having some money to buy ****.
DH was a service manager at a dealership, but I'm sure you don't want to talk about that.
Some of us want to talk about it. . . :-|
Just kidding I've had nothing but good experiences with the fine service folks over at put local dealership. When my other half had her accident last year, they tool excellent care of us. Much better than the experiences we had with our Vulcans in the area (she still rides her Vulcan, I'm down to 1 bike).
To the OP - my OL's son-in-law went to OU, and played football down there. Go Bobcats!

Any job in sales and specially in retail sales is long hours, weekends and holidays. But it can get into your blood! 30+ years running big box stores and in the home stretch now.
To the OP, after reading your posts I am making three observations:
1. You are female;
2. You have never ridden a Harley in your lifetime; and
3. You dont know anything about Harley Davidson other than they make motorcycles.
I dont have a clue how you got this internship at a dealership, maybe a relative? Most dealerships hardly have any ideas about marketing. Maybe the mega-dealers that own a chain like Rossmeyers in Florida. Any real paying position would be with corporate and they get a never ending stream of applications for employment. If you seriously want a career with Harley then you better spend somd time learning about who they are in business and the world economy. Not trying to be mean here, just passing some reality your way.
By the way, OU has one of the most beautiful campus in the midwest.
