I've run Kaleco muffler bearings in my hot rods for years. They are treated with Ecktalon and it richens the tone while recalibrating the backpressure. The only bad part with Kaleco is the kaniffle pin that secures the chrome intensifier. I throw them away and use mechanics safety wire to hold mine on.
I'd keep at least a set of kaniffles on hand just in case you have to take it in for the dyno-recalibration. A buddy took his in with the safety wire and was told that voided the warranty. Here he was stuck for the $2 worth of kaniffles + thedarned dyno locked him out and would not allow a manual restart.
I bought a set of those TimkenMUFFLER Bearings, but I can't seem to find a Muffler Bearing Tool to change out the worn ones?
Tried Sears, MATCO,Snap-off, nobody seem to have one. Anyone got one I could borrow, or maybe post a pic of one so I can fabricated one from a 9/16" socket.
contrary to popular beliefs muffler bearings where invented by mechanics. It helped them solve little noise problems that wemens came into their shops complaining about. "I keep hearing this little squeak" So themechanic gets in the car and drives fast and slow stops goes peals out and attempts to hear the squeak. When he can't repeat the squeak he tells the lady at the shop. "Yeah it was the muffler bearing I put a little grease on it and your squeak is now solved. And hey lady I won't even charge you."
And when the lady leaves so does the friking squeak.
muffler bearings, knutson valves, tassel grease, etc etc etc. Its all good.
