Just curious if lead paint was ever used on the old bike frames? I am in the process of sanding the paint off a 1970 XLH. Thanks
I wouldn't only be worried about lead itself. Inhaling the dust, with or without lead, isn't good.

red lead primer, and Navy grey ..
Thousands of sailors lived ,chipped/painted with lead paint.
Not to mention the thousands of feet of asbestos covered pipes we painted/cleaned/etc.
We wore no mask, or anything else..
Guess its not sudden death.
but you cant be too cautious in todays world.
Not to worry you heybaylor; Inhaling asbestos generally manifests itself several decades after exposure. That's why there are so many law firm commercials regarding mesothelioma.

Covering his privates won't help when the concern is inhalation. This isn't radiation.

well, I am 74 now , when can I expect sudden death ??
We also used chlordane , carbon tech, and breathed diesel fumes all day.
not to mention 95% of sailors smoked unfiltered cigarettes.
bunch of lawyers making money off a few people who were unlucky ??

Lead was used in new automotive production for many years .... All the "roof to quarter panel seams" were finished by hand with lead ... As mentioned earlier anytime you're removing paint "making dust" it's advisable to use protection ... especially when sandblasting with silica sand as it is extremely damaging to the lungs.

I just ran some numbers and it said something about "any day now???" Take it for what it's worth.

I will put my 2 cents in by saying that frames have been powder coated for more then 25 yrs . And the only vehicle after 1970 with lead in its paint would be fire trucks . But you sould still wear a N95 dust mask when sanding any paint for longer then 2 or 3 mins.
