I was wondering how many big twin owners with stock motors have tried reg gas? My 09 110 road glide needs 92 or it spark knocks bad. Prior to that I had a 05 and 07 that both ran better (road glides) on regular. 46 to 49 mpg always on the 05 and 44 to 47 on the 07. both of these bikes got at least 2/3 mpg worse on 92 oct.
My toy a 01 fxd is a 103 11/1 comp (at least) with hemi heads and runs on 92 octane with no preignition. So I don't see why almost everyone is putting premium in stock 8 1/2 to 1 comp motors.
I haven't tried running regular in either of mine. Someone that makes a lot more money than I do said it needs to run on 91 Octane or higher, so I haven't lived on the wild side and tested anything else.
My Subaru running 21psi of boost has forced me into the habit of filling with 94. Never have to give it any thought. Damn the cost. Fun has it's price!
After the first 6-9 months of running premium in my current bike, I switched to regular. I haven't seen, felt or noticed any difference. It still has the same power as it did with premium.

All HD's have HEMI heads, since the side valve went away a log time ago.

Where are you coming up with "stock 8 1/2 to 1 comp motors" on a tour bike such as your Road Glide?
F. I. TC 88's had 8.9 to 1, TC96 9.2 to 1, TC 103's are 9.6 to 1, and now 9.7 to 1. The 2014 Rushmore watercooled is 10.01 to 1. The current 110 engines are 9.2 to 1 . Your '09, if the specs I just looked up are correct, is 9.15 to 1. It also has, I believe, the hotter stock 255 factory cam, which probably gives you higher cylinder pressure, which is more relevant factor than compression ratios.

I ran nothing but regular in my 07 for the first few years I had it. I switched to super only because everyone else seemed to be using it. Couldn't tell the difference

I normally run mid grade fuel but if regular is all I can find I'll use that too. Although I will try to stick to premium high grades in the heat of summer or when touring through the mountains.
