It was a beautiful day here in southern Virginia so I figured I'd go for a ride. Upon my return home I discovered my left saddlebag was gone. That's about $250 on the side of the road somewhere not including the stuff I had in the bag.
It was a U.S. Saddlebag - upon inspection of the bike, one of the retaining rings on the mounting bracket had broken at the welds which must have allowed the bag to liberate itself. Kind of a drag.
I don't have a hard bag, so there's no loss but what I have in it, would be a major loss. But I have mine tie wrapped on. MAYBE it'll never come off. Maybe.
Well that sure stinks. You never know...someone might just be honest and kind enough to track you down. I've had stranger things happen when I least expected it.
My HD bags are bolted on so they are not likely to come off but if they were removable, seems like it would be a good idea to put a label inside with your name, phone number, and "REWARD".
That sucks man!
I've lost a lot of stuff off my bike, but never a whole saddle bag. I really hope nothing valuable was inside it.
If there were, you'd be backtracking for sure.
I backtracked once for a lost tool roll and jacket that I forgot to re-secure. Found it in the middle of the road, somewhat worse for wear having been run over a few times.
But at least I recovered all the tools in good condition.
The thing is, we never notice it's gone until we arrive at our destination.
We are so focused on the road ahead that we rarely see what is behind us.
