Most of my riding is cross country touring. The credit card and AAA/CAA tip is the best. But I also carry a few nylon tie straps, small vise grip, 10" and 8" adjustable wrench, multi screw driver, and the folding multi-tool that came with my bike. The folding tool has the allen and torx bits I may need to tighten a loose bolt on the road.
I have had a few minor bolts come loose on my trips. The simple tool kit I carry allowed me to do a quick repair till I can get to a dealer on my route. I have yet to be charged by a dealer to get someone to pull the offending bolts and add a drop of blue loctite for my peace of mind.
If I need anything more than the Leatherman and small crescent wrench I carry at all times, I'll either be hiking or waving someone over...
Haven't been stranded yet, in the 6 years I've owned this bike. As a general rule, you're always within at least 10 kilometers of SOMEthing if you are on a paved road in Japan...
