Hi all, I have an 07 Deluxe, I had been out for about an hour when my bike completely died , breakdown got her back to my house , the headlights work but absolutely nothing else, it won't fire up or anything . A new fuse was replaced but this blew immediately.
My friend who does all my work has been all over this with a fine toothed comb, tried everything he could think of, he has just been on the phone after looking at some wiring diagrams talking about some grey wire and the turn signal security module, to be honest I don't think he knows what else to do which means taking my bike to my local dealer which is the last thing I want to do, this has been going on for weeks now so you guys are my last resort before the dealer so any help from this forum would be greatly appreciated.
The weather is picking up here now and I can here bikes everywhere so to say I'm gutted is an understatement .
Cheers
Gerry.
If a fuse is blowing then power is going to ground somewhere. I would check all the connections of your aftermarket accessories. Connections twisted together then wrapped in electrical tape pull apart frequently. If that's the case, start soldering your wire splices. Also, it is common for the wires under the back fender to be compromised when a bike is lowered, a wider tire is added, or when the rider and/or passenger or load is too heavy for the suspension. Regardless, start with what fuse blew. If it's the main fuse then check what I suggested. Good luck!
With the fuse blowing immediately, a pinched wire or shorted relay comes to mind. What circuit is the fuse for?
Ignition, I had apes and a side licence set up fitted 2 years ago and no problems at all, and seeing as my mate did the work these are the first things he double checked, since then he's been over everything to no avail, he's coming back next week to try something else and figures if that don't work I'm gonna have to go to the dealer . Thanks for taking the time to reply I appreciate it.
If you have a wiring diagram un plug everything on that circuit and see if it still blows the fuse, if it doesn't then one of the things you unplugged is shorted, process of elimination from there. There are more technical ways to find but I can't explain it. Ohm meter would help.
Like stated above. What fuse is blowing and what does it power? If you don't know that and your buddy doesn't know that----take it to the dealer. I suspect a wire is frayed and going to ground. It could also be whatever the fuse powers to is going to ground. One or the other. This isn't rocket science but it does take a process of elimination and trouble shooting. Voltmeters, test lights, and a ohm meter may be required.
