Oh give me a break. You've never been distracted while driving, intentional or otherwise??
Let's differentiate between "Life happens" distractions, and things like cell phones, drinking, and driving for this line of thought though. And yes intentional distractions should be handled more harshly.
As we see from the news cell phone use is proving to be as bad as drinking or drugging while driving for many of us.
It's a self inflicted distraction or diminishment of abilities or attention that often results in someone else being hurt or worse. If you F' up while in any of these states you have added greater risk to us all for selfish reasons.
I don't care what people do to themselves for relaxation or entertainment, I do care when they hit the road in an impaired or distracted state.
Selfish pursuits causing problems for others needs more attention and consequence than we see today.
For Me just seeing "Another rider down" thread just puts a sub conscience reminder memo in my mind to be careful. I may or may not click on that thread but it is a reminder none the less...
Ride Safe All...Spring CRAZY time of the year!!!
This is me too. I know it happens because I see the headlines in the news and on here but I don't always read about it because it's depressing. But it does make me aware that another rider is gone, the goofballs are still out there and to be careful.
What I hate the most, is the lack of serious punishment for taking someone's life, especially when they're drunk and/or texting, which TO ME is the same. You're choosing to impart your driving "ability" and it should reflect in the killing of someone.
Some days I'll read'em and some days I won't. I can say that some of the threads have taught me a thing or two that make my riding safer, and for that I'm thankful for the thread. What I don't like are the Monday morning quarterbacks who come on here with their Holyier-than-Thou attitude and tell the OP all the things they should have done, because you know, the QB's are perfect riders.
my wife was on Facebook rider down page.... needless to say she unsubcribed she realized calling me everytime someone went down was needless worrying.
Its a numbers thing more vehicles on the road more accidents you can be mad about distracted drivers or you can anticipate them. Being cutoff is a way of life in Southern California , shrug
While I feel a loss when I see a rider down thread I usually skip them unless it's a regular in here, I've been at this long enough I quit going to bike related funerals as I've outlived better than half the riders I've known over the years and yeah maybe a little survivors guilt working there.
You ride either long time experienced or dewy eyed newbie you better have made your peace with the fact you can be the next statistic or you have no business being on a bike. If there wasn't the subconscious hint of danger involved a lot peoplle wouldn't be on one in the first place.
People die in bike crashes, people die in car accidents, people die in a hospital, people die in their own bed. If you stop riding you will still eventually die.
