Default harley belt gone wrong

Good morning all you Hogs.
Can you believe it, took my 94 Fatty in for a service and ended up with having to replace my drive belt, fetched the bike and true as bob, not even 50km down the road my brand new belt decides to go awol. South African R3500 spread on the tar road. Attached is a pick of the break, can someone perhaps help me in the right direction for a complaint, cause in S.A they shrug theire shoulders and say unfortunately no recourse. it's absolutely absurd. harley belt gone wrong-harley-belt.jpg

drive safe.

That is a mighty suspicious looking break. Most I have seen were caused by a rock or some such debris. That almost looks like it was cut with the intent to fail. Inspect carefully but if dealer is unwilling to cooperate I would contact moco.

I also find that break very odd looking.

Is that a genuine Harley belt?

Harley dealership sells the belt for around $245 , which is around ZAR 3000 , which means your dealer charged only $41 for the install.

Looks like maybe it was adjusted too tight.

I'll save you the trouble of contacting the MoCo.

"Each dealership is individually owned and operated. We have no control over them."

That is what I kept hearing over and over when I gave the MoCo a list of things that were messed up on my new bike when the dealer refused to fix their own f'ups under warranty.

Or possibly too loose and incorrectly aligned and rode up the sprockets - there's add wear marks or impressions on the teeth of the belt.

I'm wondering if this was done by a Harley dealership using OEM parts, or a independent service centre.

When my final drive belt broke it looked like that, straight across. Mine broke from about 20K worth of abuse though. Seems to me if the belt isn't damaged at least the belt should be warrantied.

I had an 85 Electra Glide that I had to put 3 belts on. That's 4 belts in the 66k miles I put on it as I bought it new. MOCO was absolutely no help. Good luck.

Looks like she was pulled waaaaay too tight.

Get a Gates kevlar reenforced belt and be done with it.

A 1985 Harley had a belt?
