I'm with "dribble" on this one. If some of you saw old farm equipment that fires up after sitting outside for a few years without running or additives, and then runs, you would require medication.
Ha Springer me to....infact most of the time i run about the first 50 cents on the ground just to make sure im getting fresh gas...Dont want no backwash in my bagger....ONLY fresh for me.....
If you were to do that here in Hawaii, the Station Attendant/Owner would go beserk because of the local and Federal laws regarding fuel leaks into the environment that you and they would be liable for. My suggestion would be to use an empty EPA certified small (1 or 1.5 Gal) plastic fuel container to drain the hose into and when the container is filled just empty it into your car... A much better and safer solution.

Yep, true story though. I am from Oklahoma and in the early '60's there was always a gas war and the price was under 20 cents per gallon. I was 14 and rode a moped with maybe a two gallon tank. The "Go-Gas" station was self service, you filled your tank and an attendant came and collected your money and reset the pump.

Bs'n man bs'n!!!!
Should know by now that you can't believe everything posted.
Couple decades ago I worked at a gas station, if you are worried about what is left in the hose, your going to be pissed about what's in the tank below the hose.
the only thing I know, is that when our weights and measures department come out to test the octane rating of the gas, they must run a 1/2 gal through the hose before getting the sample.

With the all the plumbing in the pump, and the pick up tube in the tank plus the length of visible hose to the nozzle....I'm not surprised.
As far as dumping gas on the ground, I often fill up my car at Sam's club- gas is usually at least $0.20/gallon less there than surrounding places.
Anyway- I often arrive at 0600, right when they open. The guy in the little hut comes out and primes the pumps- by shooting several ounces of gas onto the ground out of each of a few dozen nozzles. Gotta be several quarts or more every day.
Minnesota is pretty strong with environmental laws, always wondered how that'd be viewed? They get pretty torn up over fuel spills, and here's a guy shooting gas right onto the ground.
Last time I was in California, they had bellows devices on the pumps to keep the vapors down, bet shooting gas on the ground intentionally in CA would be even more frowned upon?
The only downside is that it is the same price as the 10% Ethanol Premium Grade.
WTF?? Around here, pure gas is 25-55 cents higher per gallon than the 10% ethanol crap, depending on the brand and station (Shell is always higher than anything else, but I'll use it if it's the only non-E around). Just the yesterday I paid $2.92 a gallon for non-ethanol Premium at a Shell station. 10% ethanol premium is around $2.46 or so if I remember right.
