Unhappy Deuce Switch covers

Hello to all,

I've been wrenchin on Harley's for more years than I care to acknowledge. I consider myself above average, but not a pro. Done mine and others motor work and other items with great sucess due to the fact I pay attention to detail. One thing that has always eluded me, was the proper way to deal with the switch covers on Harleys. even though I follow the manaul and add some creativeness of my own I never can seem to get switch covers to fully close on the back side. The front I can get closed but it seems no matter what I do I'm always left with a 1/16 of an inch or so gap on the rear of the switch covers. Yes I have them seated in the slots, the tab correctly inserted into the alighment slot, no wires pinched. The controls orientated to the proper position and so on. But I never can get the rear to fully close. OK guys whats the trick?

Thanks for the help in advance!
