Default Front fork slider plug position

About two months ago I rebuilt the front forks on my 98 Fat Boy and have been riding since. The other day I noticed fluid leaking out of the left fork drain plug so I tightened it. After riding again I noticed more fluid so I decided to put a new copper washer while doing so I noticed my problem. When I was adding the fluid I noticed that when I rebuilt the forks I positioned the slider tube plug incorrectly. The manual says to make sure that one of the flats on the plug is facing towards the inside of the fork, mine are positioned forward and aft. Will it really make a difference if I leave them the way I have them? If I have to re position them I was figuring on leaving the wheel on and loosening the fork stem bracket pinch bolt and cap nut one at a time and then turn fork tube to the correct position is that OK, to me its seems so?

that has no bearing on the drain plug leaking. and yes the top plugs should be flats to the outside. the reason for this is so the tree cover bolts can go in and make contact with the plug.

I know that it has no bearing on the drain plug leaking I just gave more information then needed. I went ahead and repositioned the slider tubes so the plug flats are in the correct position. After thinking about it I surmised that it might give the top of the tube a little more strength that way, it is moot now that I corrected it. Thanks for your reply
