Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

EDIT - I just talked to Harley Dealer. They are going to see if they have an ignition switch. That sounds like the easiest fix. Just waiting to hear
I have a trailer , if you need to get the bike to Raleigh, Ray Price Harley I assume?

Looking at the electrical diagram, it is seriously basic...3 wires and a 30 amp breaker. Pull the seat, disconnect battery negative terminal, remove dash cover, take pics so you can remember where the wires go, unscrew the wires, unscrew the ignition from the base.

And if you have HD shop manual, it is section 8-16.

You take the entire bike to your dealer for them to do and they are going to charge you big bucks. You take the switch to a locksmith I would think that you will save some money.

Thanks for much for your generous offer. I located an ignition and someone to install it.

Great idea. I've got if covered, but if this ever happens again I'll remember!

Believe it or not you can pick barrel locks with a Bic style pen. The kind with the plastic tubes. Barrel locks can be picked because the tube is the right size to fit into the lock. It's rigid enough to maintain its shape, but malleable enough to mold to function as a key.

There are many how to videos on youtube.

Happy ending thanks to Shelton Harley Davidson! They had an ignition at their Goldsboro location so I rode my brother's bike over to pick it up. Their Smithfield location was less than a mile from the hotel and they picked it up for FREE! It was installed for about $25 and I was on my way out the door in less than 15 minutes.

Thanks to the great team at Shelton and thanks for all of the generous offers of help from the members of this forum. You're never alone when you ride a Harley.

My two biggest lessons from this are 1) ALWAYS carry a spare key and 2) I need to develop at least minimal mechanical skills. I'm not saying I want to learn to rebuild an engine in a hotel parking lot, but I need to get comfortable doing minor repairs.

We finally got back on the road about 1:30 and I was back in Charles Town, WV by 7:00. Not too bad considering the traffic.

You can pick SOME barrel locks with a bic pen. NOT ALL though. I have used the bic pen trick to pick a few locks but have never been able to make it work on an HD barrel lock.

Now; this is something I usually hafta tell a woman--HOW 'BOUT A SPARE KEY THIS TIME!?

I have no less than 5 keys for my RKC--2 original Harley ones, & 3 that a local locksmith made. I keep the keys with the key code in my strongbox, & use the locksmith keys. Same with my paperwork--originals are in strongbox, & I carry ones I made in the xerox.
