The HD bracket mounts to both the cross brace and the fender.

The riders backrest kit runs around $200 and the riders backrest mount runs around $45 before any discounts you can get online. You can get different style riders backrest kits (the design on the pads is different) to match your seat. Its a simple installation, only suggestion I have is don't torque it down the first time, put it all together and sit on it and see how it feels. Then move it to the mounting hole that makes the most sense for you and torque it down with blue locktite.

I bought my bike used and the bracket was already there. I just bought the stock non-adjustable back rest and love it. I'm 6'2" and ended up mounting it as far back as it would go. It is very sturdy. I can lean back against it and lift my *** off the seat, and I'm 235 pounds. It doesn't flex at all. Most comfortable thing I have bought yet.
