'"Pre-load is a side effect of adjusting your pushrods properly" or lifter adjustment (pre-load) as you like to call it, is a side effect of pushrod adjustment.
I think you are splitting hairs... your hairs.
PS measure the height of a lifter with no pre-load and then with pre-load. Then let me know if there is a difference in height/adjustment.

Lifter height stays the same, unless you want to split hairs and call the socket/seat the actual lifter which it's not.
Please explain how you will change the height of this lifter without removing metal. You cant.
On a recent trip to York/Lancaster area, (800+ miles from home) we had a day of highway speed and my lifters were just a singing. Using the HD gauge in the inner fairing oil pressure probably at or near 25 psi. The next day, while traveling freeways (actually Fee turnpike) the lifters were just like normal, oil pressure at 32 psi. Just a hit or miss on noise. Doesn't seem right one has to replace with a better lifter when there's only 8500 miles on the originals.
