Start digging into old clubs...there has to be some near you, I bet if you contacted the one in my area (New England)...see following links....you'll get good info.
Every years I ride up to this swap meet with a few buds.....some excellent goodies there to score, including TONS of old old OLD bikes.
I love the 47 indians. I've seen 1928 aND 1927 harleys in ebay for 10 to 16k. Figured if I spent 20 I might get a little better bike. Maybe have to find some more cash. The big thing is, in this economy, prices can come down on collectable sometimes.
Was that the starting listing price or the final auction price? $20K can get you something in the 60's (maybe 50's...depending on the condition and what bike). Most of the other older restored bikes are $30K+ now that I have seen.
