I got caught up behind a couple slow riders on Iron Mt road, they were way slower through the curves than I wanted to go, but I guess its better they go at their own pace then crash or cross over the center line. I'll take a minor annoyance over watching somebody wreck.

several people aren't going home because they didn't navigate corners.
To much traffic everywhere. It was taking 30 minutes just to get out of our campsite. Took a hour to get into town from Glencoe campground on Tuesday. If it wasn't for some of the dirt road short cuts you would never get around. The best part was riding in and riding home. It was my 3rd time there, and my last.
I've been to Sturgis the last few years now, and one of the reasons I went this year was to see how bad the traffic would be compared to an "off" year.
It was pretty bad. I only spent one day in Sturgis itself because it was so hard to get around. Riding in the hills was a bit slow, but tolerable. Fortunately the one time I got stuck behind a really slow group they pulled off for a picture.
I'll still go back from time to time, but I'll definitely avoid the "5" and "0" years ...

Yep ... If you're on the east side of town it can be a pain in the posterior, even using the back streets and roads. Hell, I've even ridden up 179 to US-212 to avoid town some days
Think you may be onto something regarding the gas prices.
Checking out one of the price sites for gas nationwide:
Sioux Falls premium is 2.68
Sturgis/Rapid City is 3.79/3.67
I was there at the end of June...dont remember it being that high.
Sounds kinda fishy...is gas that more expensive to transport out to Rapid City area??
I grew up on Cape Cod Mass as a kid (60's and 70's) and everything took a price increase in the summer. The locals had to pay just like the tourists did and I guess the locals in the Black Hills have to take it in the shorts for a few weeks around the Rally.
Why people get so spun up on how people utilize there own property or how they get somewhere is a mystery to me.

My feelings exactly, I couldn't care less on how an individual arrives. Someone that pulls a trailer is no less interesting to me than a person that rides, I do both.

The vast majority of the fuel out there is controlled by the Moyle family. Its not a monopoly, but darn close. Rapid City is normally 25-30 cents a gallon across the board compared to Sioux Falls.
