Owner's manual indicates:

Solo - 36 front, 36 rear (cold)

2 up - 36 front, 40 rear (cold)

Tires are marked 40 psi max (cold)

I go with what is suggested in the owner's manual.

And just remenmber what's in the maual applies to the make, size and type of tire that came on the motorcycle from the factory.

Side note- I read a magazine article a year or so ago about tires and pressures. Two engineers from Dunlop went to the Honda Hoot one year and checked the tire pressures of every bike in the parking lot they could get to in a day. Something like 85% were underinflated.

yep. a serious oversight on the part of most riders, myself included at times. correct tire pressure is important for both handling and tire longevity, and it varies based on load and conditions (2 up in the rain vs attacking the twisties, etc...).

for a good laugh, take a look at car and truck tires. you dont need a pressure gauge to see that most vehicles have at least one, if not more seriously under inflated tires.

Well smartin' the hell up (can I say hell???) . No Yuck, the sidewall is to tell you the max that can be put in that tire with load. Using what the sidewall tells you, will wear out the tires sooner, lower your gas milage and it can bedangerous, since the bike will corner poorly.

It's no different than your car, you go by what is on the door sticker (you are putting in what it says on your door, right?)which is different than what is on the tire. ALWAYS go by the manual or the sticker on your bike (I took all mine off, but the info is in my manual anyways).

If you don't have the stickers or a manual, then you check with a Harley dealer....not the tire manufacturer.

Sorry that's wrong Neckball, the only reason to change your tire pressure from what is in the manual, is if you go to a different size tire.....make and type have nothing to do with it.

Hmmmm,,,being from the bios-ply era,,,when radials came in,,they required less air,,,so I figured to go by the tire manufacture specs....u see my reasoning,,,also when its cold out the airhas less density,,which causes low pressure,,,I never ran low presure,,,tires always wore well,,,I never owned a bike that had stikers on it,,,never bought a manual cause I'm a shade tree kinda guy and if I get into a bind I call Booger,,,he's the smart as& around these parts....anyway,,,gonna top off the PSI in the morning,,,run like hell to work,,,and check the PSI,,when I get off the bike....

I always like riding them hard,,,,not soft....

Well smartin' the hell up Sam,,, We'll get it right someday....

I have always been impressed by the fact that there are a surprising number of individuals who never use their minds if they can avoid it, and an equal number who do use their minds, but in an amazingly stupid way.
