Default transferable warranty??

Don't know if this has been asked before, but aren't the warrantys transferable? My buddy just bought a '04 XL1200 with 1000 miles on it, and it has 5 months left on the warranty. He went to the local dealer to transfer it over to his name and the first person he talked to said sure, no problem... but when they went to talk to someone else, he said they could only do it if he bought an extended warranty at this point.

anybody ever heard of this? This is my buddys first Harley, his initial excitement is being erroded by his encounters at the dealer...

Is there a dealer rep? or someone to call at the Co? Or am I mistaken about the transferable warranty?

From my understanding, the original warranty should still be good. I'd call the customer service at the MoCo to get a better clarification.

That's BS. I bought a used RK and had no problem making two warranty claims. Dealer gave me no hassle. Call the MOCO.

I thought there was a time frame that it was to be transferred from the previous owner to the new. They want to sell you a new one because they don't make/steel anything on a transfer. If you can find out who the previous owner is he should have a contract number.

I am going to give you a number that is on the back of my warranty card (that you should get after the transfer). Call the number and maybe they can search the contract by the VIN.

1-800-527-7665

They are in Scotsdale, AZ

I'd just tell them you wanted it transfered to you before saying too much. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help guys, he's gonna call the MoCo... I'll keep you posted...

This dealer pulled it up by the VIN in the computer, and said it was good thru Feb, so they know it still has warranty left...

And the previous owner gave my buddy the warranty card/info, and this is the same dealer where it was purchased new...

i am sure he will find that the factory coverage follows the bike, not the owner. the bike is covered for 2 years unlimited miles, period.

Well, just an update... everybody was right, My buddy called the MoCo, and they said warranty follows the bike, and as long as he is registered owner, the remainder of warranty will be honored... they also asked for the dealer name to follow up....
