Default Heated Gear

I know it a little early to start talking about heated gear but I just ordered a set of gear for the wife and I from RideWarm last night. I got to thinking how hard is this stuff on the bike's electrical system? I've heard so many problems about HD's stators and I'm starting to wonder if by adding one or two sets of heated gear (vest, glove insert, face mask, and head band) to the bikes system will that cause any issues. Anyone that has used heat gear for a while have any issue crop up with your bike?

I live in coastal Alaska and use heated gear the majority of our rather short riding season and spend a great deal of time in heavy rain. I have never had an issue. My bikes are both set up for both Operator and passenger. If you wire the bike in a proper manner you shouldn't have any issues (take the time to get this right). Heated gear is one of those things I never leave home without.

In the winter months I run everything Gerbings has to offer; socks, outer pants, either jacket liner or their outer jacket and of course gloves. This is on my 01 Road King which has close to 100K. The stator was replaced about 25K ago and as of now still looks like almost new (apart now with engine upgrade). Never had any starting issues and run my gear directly from the battery terminals.

Now is the time to go to the Gerbings outlet and get heated gear on sale. They sell blemished and 2nds at a discount and only have so much.

I've run heated gear on my EVO Roadking for several years. Never had an electrical problem except for blowing a couple of fuses.

And make sure you have the right fuse in the controller for the items you are hooking up....

Find out what the capacity of the charging system on your bike is, deduct the draw of all the bike's components from that capacity, and that'll be how much room you have for heated gear.
