My wife had a huge problem with the heat on her 2009 Heritage. It was so bad that it would actually blister the side of her leg closest to the engine if she had to sit with the engine running (no air moving over the engine) for very long.
We tried wrapping the exhaust pipe under the chrome shields. We tried putting heat shields on it to block part of the heat. Nothing we tried stopped the burn.
Until...we put a Captain Itch Crotch Cooler on it.
Honestly, we didn't have a lot of hope that it would help very much, since nothing else we had tried did the trick.
And it was about as simple to put on as you can come up with. So, honestly, we both thought that it was just too good to be true.
We installed this thing just a few weeks ago. The first time she took the bike out after we installed the crotch cooler, she was amazed how little heat she felt. She just RAVED about how much better it was.
This past Sunday morning it was a bit on the cool side (Northeast Georgia) when we took the bikes out for a little ride. When we got back and took off our jackets, she walked over to me and put her hands on my arm and they were icy cold. She said that the crotch cooler worked TOO WELL! She was expecting to get a lot of heat from the engine (like always) so she didn't wear her heavy jacket. She said that the engine heat was so much cooler than "normal" the engine didn't keep her warm enough and she felt like she was freezing!
I tell ya, I'm impressed. I may even buy one for my Limited for next spring.
I don't know how well it will work for anyone else, but I can tell you that it definitely was THE fix for my wife's Heritage.
Yep. Got them for both my bike and the wife's bike. Works great in our Bakersfield heat. I do take them off for winter rides though, when we want the engine heat.
One of the best investments I ever made on a motorcycle. I got a 2007 ultra classic with a Rhinhart exhaust and it would cook my left thigh. I was caught in traffic trying to get out of our cities 4th of July celebration. My left thigh got so hot I finally just pulled over and shut the bike down. When I got home my thigh was burning. Wound up with a red swollen area from the heat. I did some research on line and ordered one from Captian itch. Mounted it the day it arrived and rode the rest of the summer without a problem.
