so as autumn starts to fade.... and storage enters my mind i was wondering if anyone knows of an economical bag for storing my HD windshield. i know HD makes one but it, as with many other products they brand is pricey. anyone know of any aftermarket bags or other options to protect the lexan?
I purchased a new w/s for my bike. It came with a custom designed storage container, and because I am such a good customer, it was free! My girlfriend thinks it looks like a cardboard box. She is so silly sometimes.
An ancient post but I know people research topics/ideas.
My 2-cents: An under-the-bed box (mine is a Sterilite - I prefer the slightly smaller 60-qt over the 66-qt but both will work for the Ultra Limited FLHTK).
Price: $15- $17 at Target & Walmart. And it provides more protection than the $69.99 H-D & Memphis Shade bags ... I have mine on a shelf in my garage. I actually have 3 "extra" windshields ... (2) stock, an acrylic Memphis Shades (acrylic scratches too easily) and a much better polycarbonate (V-Stream) by National Cycle (doesn't scratch as easily as acrylic). I just put some bubblewrap around & in-between each and I can get my (2) stock plus the 3rd one into the same box (or use a pillowcase, t-shirt, bath towel, etc., in lieu of the bubblewrap around & in-between the stacked windshields).
Note: the dimensions on the labels of plastic storage bins is the total width/length/depth including the rim of the box ... take a tape measure to the store and actually measure the "interior bottom" - aka the actual "storage" dimensions. The plastic bins they sell for Christmas wrapping paper also work, but you'll have A LOT of extra [unnecessary] length with these bins.
I just can't see dropping ~ $75 incl. tax on a canvas exterior/fleece lined zipper [backpack-looking] bag for one windshield!
