I can't avoid it on my commute. I don't mind it though. It can get mundane, but there's worse things in life.

I prefer to ride on the interstate. I think that it is safer because no cross roads to worry. everyone traveling the same direction. Also, The speed. I enjoy pushing 70 - 75 for hours on end. Lock in the cruise control and just go. Tune out if I so desire. I can still see a lot of America, more of it actually.

Destination riding or commuting will find you on the Interstate. You need power because you may have to hit speeds of over 90 MPH. I had a Cadillac blow past me at over 120 I was doing 75 and they sounded like "Wooooossshhh" going by. that and the trucks, where I am at truckers stick to the speed limit but if you get one pushing behind you, you may have to roll the throttle a bit and get moving. its nothing to be afraid of, you jus may be up to "cruise" speed for a sustained period of time.

I like interstates because they keep folks off two-lane roads.

I wish that was the case around here. I have to take the interstate cause the back roads are clogged up worse. Especially for the morning/ afternoon commute.

I've done enough interstate riding in my F-150 (monthly trip to FL/NJ) to know how BORING it can be, and that my fruit basket and butt won't take a lot many miles on the bike without a lot of practice.

I get enough long-distance riding with my 85+ commute to work 2-3 times/wk. and only take the interstates (and Garden State Parkway) at night to minimize the chance of a deer encounter. Other than that, it's all secondary roads.

There are times when I dig it....the particular pipes I have on my Shovel...there's a certain speed I hit (dunno exactly what..my speedo has been broken for years).....think around low 70's...but the sound coming from the pipes is such a great sounding cadence...puts me in a zone.

No windshield (that's on my truck, along with my stereo).
You'll get used to the blast of wind from the trucks.
Your arms will get used to the pull from your body against the wind.

All part of the experience...you'll get used to it, take your time getting there.

The slab sucks but sometimes you need to make up time from A to B.
