I was curious as to what methods those of you who wear helmets use to secure/lock your helmets when leaving them with the bike? Typically, I'll just leave my helmet placed down around my floorboard and brake unsecured. Hadn't had any problems thus far. But what with the ROT rally coming up, I've been thinking of maybe locking the helmets when out andabout on the rally grounds. I'm not a real big fan of the helmet locks that secure themselves onto the engine guards and such. I just don't care for the look. Aside from a cable of some sort, does anyone out there have any ideas that have worked for them? Thanks.
Anything you can do to make swiping the helmet more time consuming/difficult will help. People are going to target quick walk-bys and ****** one off the hwy pegs or handle bar. It would be easy to use a small longneck padlock around the nylon straps or metal clips.
It goes in my tour pack.....if I have room. If not, then I use a padlock and lock the D-ring on the helmet to the front brake leaver. The ball on the end of the leaver keeps the lock from being pulled off.
Then again, anyone with a knife......well, hard to prevent that.
I have a helmet lock on my front forks. Can hardly see it. Especially when we travel, I insist on using it. I can onlyimagine how screwed up our trip would be if we were to lose our helmets. Irefuse to pay hundreds of dollars for one cause Ijust gotta have one, even if it doesn't feel right. It's hard to find the right one as it is.Just leaving them unlocked it just not a chance I am prepared to take.
My Helmet is in need of replacement, looks a little ruff. If they were gonna take a helmet, it would not be mine. I just set it on the seat and leave it, never had but 1 problem.I did have a helmet stolen in Daytona, one of those little beanie, non DOT, skid lids. Cost me $10. plus all the stickers that I had on it.
How would you like to see someone take your stuff and notknow you saw them?Hmmm.., well, maybe not, its not worth jail and all the charges.
Locks and stuff might help keep 'honest people honest', but if someone wants your helmet, and if it's in sight, they will get it without very much trouble.
A small bolt cutter will cut through any lock, and if they don't carry bolt cutters with themaknife can cut a helmet strap instantly. Not that difficult to replace a helmet strap.
Best thing to do is carry the helmet with you, or at least put it in a saddlebag or luggage container where it won't be seen.
When a lowlife wants your helmet he'll just cut the strap and just leave the 2 "D" ringd locked to your bike.
One way I've never done , but I have seen this way a few times. Put your kickstand down into the inside of your helmet. I think that would slow down a thief and would help keep the bike upright in wet muck or sand. If it starts raining you bucket would fill up with it.

Yeah, I agree. Out of sight, out of mind kinda' thing. And walking the rally grounds with a helmet in tow would get really old rather quickly I would imagine.
