While I think Harley's executive team is responsible for their problems, I do think the economic slowdown is only adding to their woes. There is no excuse for Harley to be losing market share regardless of economic conditions.
I saw Polaris's CEO speaking this week and he blamed their 4th quarter revenue declines largely on weakness in OVR's and snowmobiles. I guess we can guess where some of their motorcycle market share gains are coming from.
They posted their motorcycle sales, they were up 75% YOY.
no one is telling the full story, back when all the auto companies took the million dollar bailout's harley took one too. if they had not, half the dealers out there now would be gone. so don't tell it like harley is this awesome selling company, cause it's not. in 2012 they opened a plant in india to produce parts at a cheaper rate, so even with the extra money and cuts back they're still having trouble. i love my harley like the next guy, but when the guy who sweeps floors at the plant is making 20 bucks an hour then something has to break at some point.
how about perspective instead. i work at a place that has bars to keep people in, next to me is video court where a guy was facing charges for failure to register on two separate occasions for a sex offence. and you're worried about harley stock.
But you didn't tell all of the facts
Wal-Mart stock was at this same level as today in January of 2000, it's high was around 85 points in January of 2015, it's lost 20 points or 25% in a year
Harley stock peaked at 71 points in May of 2014 and today @ 39 points it has lost 32 points or 45% during this time.
One that is worse than both of these is Crude oil which was around 120 points in April 2011 and today @ 33 points has lost 87 points or 72%
Harley's next move will rid a few models but stay the course as the name sells.....
I'm afraid I did tell the facts. How any stock performed 16 years ago has no bearing on the market today, especially if it's lower. And thanks for pointing out Harley's stock lost half it's value in 2 years. That's not a sign of progress. More people shop at Walmart then at Harley dealers period. And their stock price is higher then Harley, so if they feel closing up shop is a good idea, what does that tell you?.,,
Walmart stock was trading at 64.05 at 9:30 am. Harley's stock was trading at 39.62 at the same time. Both Big names, Walmart is closing over 250 stores do to low/slow sales. What do you think Harley's next move will be?.,,,,
Maybe Harley will go to Walmart and take advantage of all the stuff that will be on sale. On a more personal note, I don't pay any attention to the stock market, saves on headaches that way from worrying about what will happen next.
