Maybe they shorted you on the thickness? 1.8mm is considered super-heavy weight leather. I've seen very few motorcycle jackets heavier than 1.8-2mm unless it was professional racing leathers.
Maybe .... I checked and compared both my jackets again and I think it might be due to the heavy lining on the older jacket. I still think the newer one has slightly thinner leather. But it's a hard cowhide leather though and noticeably more abrasion-resistant than non-riding (Tommy-Hillfiger) one.
1.8-2.0mm leather is not super heavy weight leather. 2.0mm is only 5 oz leather, or 5/64" thick. 4-5 oz is usually chap leather thickness. 1.2mm is 3 oz leather, or 3/64" thick. Super heavy weight leather would be in the 10-12 oz range.

Where you find 12oz leather? What's it for? Acuz if it ain't for outer wear, then it doesn't matter.
You ain't makin up stuff are you?

Can you post a link to a leather motorcycle jacket made out of 12oz leather? 12oz would be like an armored suit, it makes for a good leather belt.

I never said a thing about 12 oz leather being for a jacket, vest, or anything else. I simply responded to the statements that 2.0mm leather was super heavy. 12 oz leather is used for many things, some of them of them being body armor, boot soles, and belts. Misleading information DOES matter. I do leatherwork and work with goat, lamb, and cowhide making belts, knife sheaths, holsters, bags, etc. A great many of the vests out there are made with 3-4 oz leather with some of the better ones made with 4-5 oz leather. Lots of poor quality leather out there.

I should have said 1.8-2.0 is considered super heavy for a vest or jacket, I thought that was what we were discussing. Yes 12oz is thick, it's what I used making my gun holsters. I imagine it would be hard to move in a jacket that heavy.
