I scrambled to buy my 05 when i heard that was going to be it for carbed bikes!
I mean some things are better left as they are. the basic bike design is 70 yrs old or so.
when I get ready to leave I imagine a WWI bi-plane pilot checking his plane preparing to fly off!
I prefer a little interaction with mymachines, you know: Compression releases down...CK
choke out.....CK, fuelON....CK, ignition ON...CK, FLaps down..CK
not for nothin but screw the neighbors!! you gotta do what you gotta do. i just turn my little sporty on and let her run while i'm gettin' "duded" up. i've gotten some dirty looks from the lady walking the **** tzu but it's her problem for having a damn yippy dog that's afraid of bikes. Anyway, i'm just not a big fan of dealing with moody little carb farts that early in the morning so i just let her run till she's ready!
I do an earlier commute than some of you it appears.. I choke out and fire it up to scramble out of the neighborhood for peace with the neighbors. I ride at least a mile before I push it in any at all, and then just 1/4-1/2 way. I typically don't push it in all the way until I;ve gone around 3miles.
1. Pull Choke Out all the way.
2. Turn Bike on (starter/kick start)
3. Wait a half min or so
4. Push Choke half way back in
5. Wait 1-5minutes untill Bike's Cylinders are warm to the palm of your hand
6. Push Choke back in from half way.
7. Go Ride Somewhere
I have a carbed an another with EFI. love the sound of the carbed bike and the looks of a show polished carb
but inmy opinion with the advance in EFI technology it's simpler and less likely to break down
added to that the industry catching up and in the hands of a great tuner it will provide better results.
Just my 2 cents
I love my bike but I too think about how it would be nice sometimes to have a carb.It Kinda sucks to have to spend so much money every time you change something on the bike.Sure fuel injection provides some good points but their are days I want to take the whole thing apart and go with a carb and a magneto.Simple and to the point ,with less to worry about when I'm on the road.
You really think a magneto is less to worry about?
I don't know about everybody else but the reason I like carbs over efi is because I haven't got the efi figured out yet.So instead of saying"I don't know" I can just say carbs rule!EFI sucks.Eventually, I'll have to give in and read up on it.
Am I the only one thats kinda bummed about HD pretty much eliminating carbuerated bikes?
You're not alone. I prefer a carb over fuel injection. I feel more in touch with the engine when adjusting mixture. Besides, I like pushing and pulling *****.
