I came out of the dealers today and was following behind a worker out testing a bike. We weren't riding together, just left at the same time. He was out front on the left side of the road , me staggered to his right. He turns his directional on to go into a little strip mall on the right so i move over to his left. At this point the road widens to 2 lanes so I start over towards the left lane so I can pass him. I notice that there are 2 cars stopped waiting for traffic so they can take a left. Just as get about even with the guy on the other bike, I notice he waves the waiting vehicles to make their turn. Obviously they did not see me because they entered my lane. I had a choice to make, brake real hard and pray, or gun it and pray. I chose the latter. I swerved as hard as I could to the right and twisted the throttle. The only thing that went through my head was this is going to hurt. Dont know how they missed me, but they did. That was the closest that I ever came and was a bit surprised how calm I was. Almost like it was slow motion.
When the pickup blew the stop sign on me two years ago, I had just enough time to think the same thing. I woke up in the ambulance. I'm glad that you made it.
When I was trained to be a CTA bus driver, I was instructed to never wave a driver on. Or I could be liable for any accidents. It was good advice. Especially on a bike.

I ride in Florida six months of the year - I never trust anyone waving me out and always slow down if I'm behind someone that may do what the other guy did to you. My SO had someone wave a truck through an opening in a string of cars waiting to make a left turn.. She was in the right turn lane and the truck (who had punched it to get through the gap) T-Boned her Chevy Cruze - required a whole new side - front and rear doors and surround. She has learned situational awareness much better - especially when we're riding.... I know about every stop sign, gap in lanes of waiting traffic and anything else she deems a threat (but I'm not complaining)...

When the guy in the van made a left in front of me 2 years ago all I remember thinking as I ran into him was, "Oh no, what am I going to break?" Nothing broke, luckily. I attribute this to my ABS system which slowed me enough, straight up, to prevent my death. I was traveling at about 45 mph when he started his turn.
Glad you made it.
