If someone really wants a "Roadster" the offerings from BMW, Ducati and Triumph put this phony to shame.

Lots of "show", not much "go".

How much more are you paying for the go ? all those bikes are higher priced than the Sportster. The Polaris twins are faster but the suspension sucks they have cheap tires and a single disc brake up front and the Octane isnt available with ABS the Scout only in Indian Red

2016 Triumph Speed Triple S msrp $13,200 HP? 140

2016 Ducati Monster 1200 msrp $13,995 HP? 135

2016 BMW RnineT msrp $15,095 HP? 110

All come stock with ABS, the Monster also has traction control in several modes, etc.

On the Harley, ABS is an option, with a whopping 68hp.

Harley has never advertised as being "cheapest" "lowest cost" or even "best value for your dollar"
Those points appeal to a different demographic; you cannot appeal to ALL buyers...

Mainly in the need for H-D to attract younger buyers. The fact is for the past several years H-D has captured 50%+ of the 19 to 34 demographics of buyers of street bikes over 600cc. with big percentages of female, black and Hispanic in that group.

Go to the thread in the Dyna section an watch the video Mr. Laidlaw of Laidlaw H-D made when he was selected to introduce the half year model Lowrider S.

In it he describes the change in California sportbike riders to selecting Sportster and Dyna models over sportbikes. Many south western dealers can't stock enough to supply the demand. They rely of midwestern dealer trades for their inventory and in return trade touring and Softails.

My dealer sent 8 Sportsters last fall to a California dealer that sells every thing he gets.

Of course the older H-D rider like Dickey aren't up on hot trends of today's youthful bike market.

Here in the midwest the trikes and touring are the big sellers.

The Sportster R and the Dyna S are the direct result of customer demand. And as Mr Laidlaw said the seats were created by rider demand. H-D dealers country wide are selling all they can get and many immediately do the 117 cu. in upgrade.

Come on guys just get up to speed on the times.
^^^ This right here.

"This bike isn't exactly like mine so I automatically hate it" and "Harley is stupid for doing something different" crowd needs to gain a different perspective. Not everybody wants a black Street Glide or Ultra Classic.

Hey I like my black Ultra Classic!!!! I completely agree with you and Ih4x4 though. I also love my black Sporty as well and welcome the changes that come about with new models.

Not a bad looking bike, but just another Nightster/Iron/48 variant.

The "walnut tank" holds 3.3 gal. I'd like something with a little more capacity, say a Brazil nut?

So Harley puts good brakes and suspension on a Sportster, a not quite large enough gas tank, then makes it impractical with a postage stamp size front fender and a rear fender with its back half cut off. Do the "stylists" designing these bikes ever ride in the rain or even detail a bike w/o fenders?
