Some days I only get in 250 miles, other days I've done 875. 500 per day is about average for me. Two years ago I went to 21 different National Parks in one trip. This year, to celebrate my 70th birthday, I mapped out a route to ride the lower 48 and DC in one loop over 18 days. Now I have a conflict and can't be gone more that 10 days so I'm going to have to put it off until next year. As they say, age is mind over matter. If you don't mind, it don't matter.
Kudos, I am getting as much riding as I can now but can't wait. 3 years from today I will retire and I take on the new job of touring full time.

I've always toured solo. I think I did one trip with two buddies one time and that was it. I prefer to tour alone for the reasons stated above.

Before a solo trip I usually will read what the forum members recommend on places to stay, After all there is probably no better advice than from the members of this forum as they have covered just about anywhere you may go., stay and eat. They have never let me down. But as someone has already mentioned you have a greater chance to get in an accident or have a breakdown than being assaulted and robbed and if you let your paranoia get the best of you, you will never do or enjoy a solo trip.

One thing to keep in mind if heading to Colorado through Nebraska is that if you are on I-80 after dark the bugs are horrible.

I've toured by myself and with a buddy. Love it both ways. I'd love to tour with my wife someday because she loves riding but health issues with my son prevent that. It's just how it goes...

What happened to Larry Weaver was unfortunate and terrible. It made me rethink my solo trip in a couple weeks from now. But mulling it over, I cant let those SOBs take away what riding is all about for me.

So I will take my solo trip as planned. South from the Great White North to Nebraska. West to Colorado and Utah. A little south into Az and back up thru million $ hiway...and onto Sturgis to meet up with my buddies. I've read a lot of routes provided by members here and have planned one out for myself.

This solo run is sure to be an adventure for me, all the while keeping Larry in the back of my mind. He never finished his trip and be able to come back home safely. Which is what we all wish for.

So I will dedicate my solo trip to Larry Weaver.

I may even have a memorial patch made in his honour when I get to the rally. Maybe something like..."FOR LARRY".

Go get em Fuji! Have fun out there and ride safe! I love the patch idea too. It's amazing how this story has affected people - I think you'll see tributes to Larry around for quite awhile.

This is what another poster from another site did while entering the brew dates on his micro brews -

Upcoming stickers should look like this , and they'd make a cool patch too.

Personally, I would prefer a patch if they were available.

I've done many group rides and the occassional ride with a buddy or two but lately I've been going solo and enjoy it. As others mentioned above, set your own pace, stop when you want, etc.
