Ok...just got back from riding and saw tons of bikers on the road. Most of them give a low down, two fingered peace sign, some just a nod. Is this unique to Chicago or is it pretty common across the country. And what's up with the people who just ingnore? I look at it as a sign of respect and hate getting dissed.
Just a wave....easier than sticking your arm out in the wind and looking like a rag doll....get over the respect thing....respect you earn, and that ain't by ridin' any kinda scoot.
Well I can tell you that from Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico the low wave / low peace is the most popular acknowledgement... It is hard to tell who will and won't give them, but regardless unless I don't see the rider I always try to give a low wave....

Add Arizona to that list.
I have heard that the two finger low wave is not the peace sign but a V (twin) sign usually used by Harley drivers but I have noticed that riders of other marques are using it also as of late. Another low wave used by non-Harley riders is with the index finger extended; I assume this to mean, "We are number one."
hiya kicks, i read a story in hog tails once about this exact thing. the gist of the story is that if you see the other rider you should wave. weather its a low wave or a high wave doesnt matter. there are some who wont respond. i always give a wave, usually a low 2 finger peace sign like you said. when im on my bike im happy and at peace so thats my reason for the peace sign wave. dont let people who dont respond bother you. down here in fla there are tons and tons of bikers. most do wave. so keep it live brother and PEACE.
Well if you passed me right now, you'd be lucky to get a nod of my head, but then I've only been riding a week and I'm still holding on for dear life and busy concentrating on not falling off.
So have pity, on those who ignored you. Just in case
Same goes here in Maryland.....usually an extended arm, low wave, peace sign. Also I always wave as long as I see the other bike. Screamn_Eagle has a good point in regards to his state of mind while riding. I just figure that when I don't get a response maybe the other rider isn't in their "happy place". Personally I like waving, it reminds me that I'm on a Harley, riding free, no matter what situation I just came from or happen to be heading to.

Seems I remember the "two fingers down" wave means "keep both wheels on the pavement" (in other words, stay safe, bro). If I see the other rider in time and my hands are not busy I will return the salute; otherwise I will nod, if feasible. And, I don't care what brand the guy is riding.
