Wanting to put an LED headlight on my switchback. Was looking at different models and found the daymaker on Amazon cheap. And saw that Harley sells for $524.00. Is there really that much of a difference. Any input from someone who has installed new Led would be appreciated
Thanks
Lots of threads on this and no real answers. Some of the aftermarket LED lights are really good and just plug right in, some kind of suck and need rewiring to make them work. Depends on who you ask.
That said, I have a HD Daymaker Reflector on my SG and love it - good even light, no hot spots, and a great color beam thrown.
I bought an EagleLites LED 5.75" from Amazon for my SB - a lot cheaper and a LOT better than the stock light. Not as good as the HD Daymaker, IMO, but since I don't ride that one as often at night, I'm cool with it.
Some folks say the $99 lights are just as good as the $400 lights. I don't think they are, but if you buy one and you're happy with it, that's all that matters.
whatever you do, make sure it's something designed as an assembly (LED-reflector/projector/lens.) don't just put one of those "LED bulbs" which claims it's a direct replacement for a halogen, those things are terrible.
You can throw an led bulb in there but the cut off wont be correct and you will inevitably blind other drivers depending on the strength of the led bulb you install.
The housing is designed for the regular bulb. Can it be done? Of course and it should light up better than stock. This route is also much cheaper but make sure you have enough space in the housing for the bulb as they tend to be larger than regular. I did not have the space.
I bought the daymaker for my sporty and love it. Original price was 399 dollars and i paid 320 shipped.

Forget the Amazon/Ebay/Eagle "daymaker" led knockoffs. Look for headlights from a company called J.W. Speaker. They're the guys who actually make the Daymakers for HD. The bulb wont say "Harley-Davidson", but it will be the exact same thing.
