Default One drop "literally"

Hey All,

I'm a new rider and do not have much knowledge at all about the my bike excepts how to ride it. I just bought my 96' Softail Custom 5 days ago. It has not leaked at all until just today I saw on single drop of oil under the bike. I'm not sure if I should be concerned or not. Anything thoughts?

Did someone change the oil before you bought it? It's hard to keep from making a bit of a mess when changing and some always gets missed cleaning it up and will eventually drip.

I don't know for sure if the oil was changed before I bought it but that would make sense. I haven't see anymore drops since 4:00pm today but is haven't ridden today either. Guess I'll just keep a close eye on it?

Alrighty then. I won't worry about it. It's like a new born to me, anything out of the ordinary to me, I get a little paranoid. This thing is my new baby. 🏍💨
Thank you!!!!

I wouldn't stress about one drop, but watch it close and see if you can tell where it's coming from.

Tranny, Primary, or engine.

Put a big piece of cardboard under it, and try to find approximately where on the bike the oil is dripping from. If it's from the front part of the frame, it's probably due to a recent oil change. The oil filter location pretty much guarantees the bike will drip oil for a couple of days after changing it.

You bought a 20 yr. old Harley. It's part of their charm.

20 year-old bike is bound to spring a leak sooner or later. Mine's only 8 years-old and it already sprung a leak from the primary - a silver dollar-sized puddle drips out after about every ride. I've just been wiping it every couple of rides and keeping an eye on the level. When it gets really bad, I'll order new gaskets and replace 'em...

When it stops leaking fluids, then it is time to worry.
