Default Swirl Marks.........*&%$#@

I have swirl marks in my paint.....

Dummy me put swirl marks in the clearcoat of my tank.....[:@]

I was cleaning those "love bugs" off my bike, and thought I could use a "soft" toohbrush to get them off my tank.... Boy was I wrong. The swirl marks are not too bag, but you can see them.

Does anyone know how to get the marks out. A friend of mine has some 3M finishing polish.... Would that work?

Or should I find a good paint shop and have them do it? I really don't want to screw it up anymore than it is......

Yup, Work with automotive fine rubbing compound until the major swirls are gone. Then switch to a plexiglass polish like Novus similar. Use a microfiber cloth and lighten the pressure as you get close to the desired finish. Change the cloth often and don't let the compounds ball up on the cloth. A damp cloth with compound will help stop this. Plexiglass can be made crystal clear with this method but it will take some time. Run the length of the tank, not in a circular direction in the area . WARNING It may look too good now and you will have to do the rest of the bike.

It seem to me anyways that marks/swirls ect always look worse than they are in clear coat .
I generally try to error on the safe side when detailing , because when you polish out those swirl marks ect your basicaly removing clearcoat to that depth .
You only have so much top coat why remove any more than neccesary .

I would try meguiars swirl remover first with a microfiber or terrycloth ( rub light , straight and take your time )

Use the harsher removers only if this doesn't work. ( scratch X ,) .
If you ever use rubbing compound ( rougher yet)make sure it is clearcoat safe , if not you will go through the clearcoat in a heartbeat .
I don't even like to ever use clearcoat safe rub compound .

Keep your cloths clean ( dust free) othwise you'l create more marks . Mine are in a plastic garbage bag inside of a 10 gal garbage pail with the lid closed .

A buffer will do the best job in about 20 seconds.
Use a non abrasive polish with a foam wheel.
